Don’t let your employees get hot under the collar
If you want your office to be a nice place to work, having a good air conditioning system matters. Your employees don’t want to be sat in the summer months feeling hot and bothered. If they feel uncomfortable, they won’t be able to work as effectively.
Soaring temperatures can also impact on any visitors or customers who visit your workplace. No one wants to be sat next to someone with sweat patches or an odour problem. If you own a doctors surgery or dentists, for instance, think about your waiting room. People will be sat in a confined space as they wait for their name to be called. They’re already feeling ill, how much more unbearable will it be in hot weather with no air circulating. If your waiting room doesn’t have air conditioning currently, this could actually impact on the health of your patients.
Community buildings and libraries, hairdressers and retail outlets, opticians and theatres… they could all benefit from having an effective air conditioning system installed. If you already have one, but it hasn’t been serviced for a long time or is very old, you should arrange for one of our engineers to check it out pronto. Air conditioning units do need to be serviced every 12 months to run at their best.
Am I breaking the law?
There mightn’t be a legal requirement to have an air conditioning system in your workplace but under section seven of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 it states: “During working hours, the temperature in all workplaces inside buildings shall be reasonable.”
Health and safety legislation states that employers have a duty to keep the temperature at a comfortable level and provide clean and fresh air. An air conditioning system can do just that.
